Meet Karly and DJ, the bold and creative people crafting good eats at BOLD Pizzeria. A fast-casual dining experience that they like to call, ‘handcrafted happiness’.
The idea to open an authentic Neapolitan style pizzeria is probably tossed around by a lot of people, but it takes those who are bold enough to take the risk of actually opening one.
BOLD Pizzeria opened in July 2014 when the previous owner, Steve Gainey, had a vision for a quick-serve, fresh, Neapolitan style pizza experience that was truly unique to Kamloops.
For a while, things were great! BOLD Pizzeria seemed to have a symbiotic relationship between the shoppers and staff of the nearby Target, a retail giant known for a similar fast-casual shopping experience. But when Target shut its doors, the economic effect had a significant impact on the business of BOLD Pizzeria and if something wasn’t done quickly, they'd soon face the same fate as Target.
That’s when Karly and DJ decided to take another bold risk.
Coming from a restaurant background with some pretty rich history here in Kamloops, they came across the opportunity for a restaurant concept that needed reimagining and accepted the challenge.
Over the course of the last three and a half years, BOLD Pizzeria has changed pretty drastically in terms of space, concept and feel, but Karly and DJ have always felt strongly about their baseline of freshness and quality.
They admit that bringing back BOLD was challenging, but it’s rewarding as guests start to get a real feel for the quality that sets their pizza apart from others.
“We live for the vibe that we’ve created with our guests and our team,” said Karly and DJ, the Faces of Good Eats.
These two collaborate on everything from concepts, recipes and menu design to creating systems and a culture that will keep people coming back for good eats time and again.
“We are in fact a nut-free and relatively soy-free place that can accommodate almost any sort of food aversion,” said Karly. “Our team both front and back boast a very solid understanding of our ingredients and preparations which makes for a very unique experience indeed.”
“You know, we really are a family-owned and operated business, with a close-knit team to match,” concluded DJ. “From a grandpa who builds and fixes to a Nana who supports us with our children to every fully engaged and inspired teammate in between, we are blessed to be surrounded by the family that we’ve created under our little lips logo.”
The team at BOLD Pizzeria is so nice that you might want to give the Faces of Good Eats a little kiss for reopening this Neapolitan style pizzeria.
